Nine student pianists competing in Lee festival

photo Nine high school students will compete at Lee University's 10th annual International Piano Festival this week.

Competition rounds begin today, June 19, in Lee University's 10th annual International Piano Festival, a weeklong series of concerts and professional instruction for high school students led by world-class faculty and guest artists.

Nine students are competing for cash and scholarships. The grand prize is $3,000.

Competition will open at 9:30 a.m. today in Squires Hall in the Humanities Center on the Cleveland, Tenn., campus. At the end of the round, top students will be selected for a final round at 10 a.m. Saturday in which they perform an entirely new program for the judges. Prizewinners will be announced at the conclusion of the final round, around noon.

This year's judges are Ning An, Gloria Chien, Jerome Lowenthal, Ursula Oppens and Misoo Sohn.
