An Antiques & More Auction Saturday on behalf of the historic Marsh House in LaFayette, Ga., will live up to its billing, with a mix of old and new merchandise up for bids.
"We have antique furniture, a new kitchen range, collectible dolls, original art, theme baskets [and] gift certificates as well as many new items," said Mary Smitherman, events coordinator for Friends of the Marsh House.
Proceeds from the auction will go toward projects at the antebellum home, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Union soldiers occupied the Marsh House during the Civil War and left behind blood-soaked floors and hoof prints in the main hall, according to an online history.
The house remained in the Marsh family for 150 years. It now is owned by Walker County and serves as a museum and events venue. Volunteers with the Marsh House Task Force, part of the Walker County Historical Society, maintain the property, using historical tours, community events, fundraising projects and rental income as sources of revenue.
The auction will begin at 10 a.m. at 307 N. Main St. in a building across the street from the Marsh House (between Wilson Fina Service Station and Foothills Art Gallery). Patrons may preview the items tonight from 5 to 8 or see selected merchandise in photos on the website, www.marshhouseoflafayette.com.

HISTORY TOURS
