Nobel Laureate Dr. Peter A. Diamond will deliver the next program in the Burkett Miller Distinguished Guest Lecture Series, sponsored by the Scott L. Probasco Jr. Chair of Free Enterprise at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Diamond will speak on "Markets and Government" at noon Monday in the University Center auditorium on campus.

Diamond is an institute professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a Ph.D. in economics. He is known for his analysis of U.S. Social Security policy and served in numerous capacities as an adviser to the Advisory Council on Social Security during the 1980s and 1990s.

Diamond received the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his "analysis of markets with search frictions" in which he "analyzed the foundations of search markets." His model "helps to understand the ways in which unemployment, job vacancies and wages are affected by regulation and economic policy," according to UTC officials.

Admission to the program is free. Seating is first-come, first-served.
