Luther Masingill to speak to UTC students next Friday

Legendary Chattanooga radio broadcaster Luther Masingill will give the keynote address on March 9 to UTC students as part of the university's Communication Week.

Masingill's Sunny 92.3 morning show partner, James Howard, will host "A Conversation With Luther" on Masingill's 90th birthday at 10 a.m. in the University Center auditorium. Admission is free, but the 250 available seats are first come, first served.

Winner of the prestigious Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters, Masingill has been the morning host on WDEF-FM since Dec. 31, 1940. It is the longest run in one broadcasting time slot in history. He is the only American broadcaster to announce both the attacks on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, and the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center.

He was featured in the most recent issue of American Profile magazine.

UTC's annual Communication Week provides students who are preparing for jobs and internships with opportunities to meet professionals in their fields of interest. Newspaper, television and radio reporters and editors, public relations and advertising executives and corporate, nonprofit and public service communicators share their insights with students during a number of seminars and events on and off campus.

"A Conversation With Luther" is presented by the UTC chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and UTC's student-run public relations firm, PR Tactics.

Doors to the UTC University Center auditorium will open at 9:30 a.m. Attendees may register for a free general-admission ticket at http://luther.eventbrite.com.
