Get a move on to see Chihuahuas do the same

The seventh annual Running of the Chihuahuas will present not just dozens of diminutive dogs racing through First Tennessee Pavilion but six emerging musical acts.

Since establishing the Cinco de Mayo-inspired race, officials with Hits 96 WDOD-FM have used the platform to introduce up-and-coming artists that have gone on to career milestones such as headlining Riverbend and performing at Lollapalooza. Past performers have included Hot Chelle Rae, Austin Mahone, BoysLikeGirls, Outtasight, MKTO, Wallpaper, We The Kings and TheReadySet.

This year's lineup includes artists on the verge of breaking big and established bands with current hits. Set to perform are NoNoNo, DJ Cassidy, Heffron Drive (starring Kendall from "Big Time Rush"), New Hollow, My Crazy Girlfriend and Bean.

Event organizer and afternoon personality Brad Steiner says, "The lineup we have put together is the strongest we have had in seven years. President Obama's inauguration DJ (Cassidy) a band with a slot at Lollapalooza (NoNoNo), a social-media sensation (Heffron Drive) and artists we will be hearing a lot from in 2014 (Bean, My Crazy Girlfriend and New Hollow). The best part is that it is free for everyone."

The all-day event is scheduled Saturday, May 3. First Tennessee Pavilion is at 1829 Reggie White Blvd.

Registration for racers is available at www.hits96.com on a first-come, first-served basis. Activities start at 1 p.m. Music begins at 2 p.m., then it's off to the races at 6 p.m. Admission is free. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy.
