ROSSVILLE: Panthers dedicate new football field

The Ridgeland Panthers dedicated their new synthetic football field installed by Dalton-based AstroTurf on Friday night.

The new playing surface was named after the late Andy Bowers, who owned H&C Men's Wear in Rossville, and the late Judge Paul W. Johnny Painter.

Their sons, Nelson Bowers and Paul Painter, were standouts on the 1962 Rossville Georgia State Championship team.

The press box was named after Arnold "Pug" Eaves, a longtime public address voice of the Chattanooga Valley Eagles and the original voice of the Ridgeland Panthers.

"I appreciate and thank [School Superintendent] Mrs. [Melissa] Mathis, the school board and the community contributors for deciding to put our turf field in for the school and the community," Ridgeland head football coach Mark Mariakis said.
