Colonial Shores Homeowners' Association president Mary Winter-White invites swimmers to join the Big Ridge Swim Team and families to become members of the Big Ridge Pool.
Photo by Katie WardColonial Shores Homeowners' Association president Mary Winter-White hopes to recruit swimmers through April 15 for the revived Big Ridge Raiders Swim Team.
"Our swim team is definitely back," said Winter-White. "The goal is to sign up 50 swim team members."
Winter-White said the team went away in 2008, but is making a comeback with swimming coach Cammie Hunt, who is recruiting boys and girls ages 5 and up. Youth must know swimming basics such as treading water and swimming laps before joining the team. Swimmers will learn freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
Winter-White said Big Ridge will be the 16th team in the Chattanooga Area Swim League. The team's home turf will be the Olympic-size Big Ridge Pool with two diving boards inside Colonial Shores. Swim meets begin in mid-June.
She said the Colonial Shores HOA is also interested in signing up Big Ridge Pool members.
"The Colonial Shores Homeowners' Association runs the Big Ridge Pool and Clubhouse," said Winter-White, adding the pool will be manned by lifeguards. "The pool will officially open Memorial Day. We hope to offer swimming and tennis lessons."
Members also have access to on-site tennis courts, gentle yoga classes and beach body workout classes.
"We are trying to breathe life back into this place," said Winter-White. "The 2,400-square-foot clubhouse has a meeting area, kitchen and indoor bathrooms. We painted the bathrooms and laid tile in the clubhouse."
She said families can rent the Big Ridge Clubhouse for birthday parties and family reunions.
