Taking it 2 the Streets Ministry volunteers will transform the grounds of Soddy-Daisy Veterans Park into a festive scene of fellowship May 20 from 8 to 10 p.m.

"They realize there are people that won't come to church, but they will come to an event," said Soddy-Daisy Police Chief Jeff Gann, who teaches the college and career Sunday school class at Christ Family Church, which provides volunteers for the ongoing events. "Taking it 2 the Streets brings God's word to the people in the streets. This is all about God and not about walls."

During Taking it 2 the Streets events, 30 Christ Family Church college- and career-age volunteers serve free grilled hot dogs, soft drinks and bottled water. A brief gospel message is presented and praise and worship instrumentalists play songs.

"We've been doing Taking it 2 the Streets for about six months now solid," said ministry coordinator Daniel Pemberton. "We bring God to them instead of in a church setting. People like to congregate in parks so we go there."

Volunteers have hosted events at Soddy-Daisy's Veterans Park, Kids Club Park, Walmart and Bakewell's Community Center.

Gann said all people are welcome to attend. He said the atmosphere is relaxed and it's a good time to fellowship together.

"We've had a good turnout of people wanting to stop and talk," said Pemberton. "We meet nice, interesting people. We've had 75 show up before. We hope to have even more people come out."
