Friends of Hixson hosting Mitch McClure Sept. 29

District 3 Hamilton County Commissioner Mitch McClure will speak to the Friends of Hixson group at North River Civic Center Thursday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

"I will give an update on the the County Commission this year and what we're doing," said McClure.

He said he will also be discussing projects he is involved with at different schools in the Hixson area as well as other happenings in the Hixson community.

"I'll most likely include goals we have now and things we're working toward in the future," he said.

One such goal is an adult high school to be located in the new community center planned for the old Hixson Middle School.

"I think it would be worthwhile to have one on this side of the river," McClure said of the school, which will be for adults who want go back to earn their high school diploma later in life. "Currently the only adult high school [in Hamilton County] is in Harrison, so someone in Bakewell, Sale Creek or Signal Mountain has to drive all the way to Harrison."

Addressing literacy problems and technology needs at schools such as Hixson middle and high schools are also among McClure's goals, he said.

At the conclusion, McClure said he will open up the floor to questions from the audience.

"If there's a situation I can help them with as a county commissioner, I will help [those attendees] as well," he said.
