Collegedale raises employee pay but not taxes

Collegedale residents will not pay more in taxes this year, while city employees will be paid 1 to 2 percent more than last year following the unanimous final approval of the roughly $6.8 million budget June 21.

"I'd just like to reiterate my concern that there's not a lot of wiggle room for anything going on with the city," Vice Mayor Tim Johnson said before the vote. "Eventually, if we don't do something we're always going to be trying to dig out of a hole."

City Manager Ted Rogers said he feels comfortable with the budget and its included line items, although he recognizes that not everything could be included, especially capital projects in Public Works.

An approximately $55,000 "cushion" will soften the blow of slumping state economics at the local level, but will not protect the municipality should those numbers take a plunge, according to Rogers.
