McCoy needs meet budget constraints May 16

The extensive upgrades needed to make the McCoy facilities user-accessible will be discussed during Walden's budget meeting May 16 at 3:30 p.m.

"We're trying to go as gently as we can because financial times are going to be rough for a while," Mayor Peter Hetzler said. "I think we can still do things with the constraints we have ... and not do anything with the tax structure, unless people want to."

Vice Mayor Elizabeth Akins rattled off a long list of maintenance issues related to the structures on the 38-acre property, from painting to roof and gutter repairs to bringing the house up to electrical code.

"We have talked to an architect involved in planning about looking at what can be done to make the house and parking areas available in the near future and where we are [right now]," Hetzler said. "We are getting documents together where we can go out and get some bids to where we could do some of this."

Akins' inventory, which doesn't yet include the barn, apple or chicken houses, will be included.

"If it's too audacious we may want to cut it back," said Hetzler.

The public is welcome to hear the presentation and discussion of all the town's budgetary needs, but is not necessarily invited to comment, as such meetings typically last several hours. The meeting will be held at Town Hall.

The budget will be presented for a vote in June and finalized with a vote in July, before going into effect Aug. 1.
