While the first week of being back at school may not seem like a reason to celebrate - at least not for the students - the fifth annual Back to School Block Party hosted by Sawrie Orthodontics, Sawrie Family Dentistry, Mountain Top Toys and Pruett's will probably have them jumping for joy, at least on the event's inflatables.

The party is being held in the parking lot at 1229 Taft Highway, in front of Sawrie and Mountain Top, Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lucie Sawrie, of Sawrie Family Dentistry and wife of Sawrie Orthodontics' Dr. Daniel Sawrie, came up with the idea for the event several years ago when they first opened Sawrie Orthodontics. Patrick Holland had recently purchased Mountain Top Toys next door, and they asked if he would mind them using part of the lot for the event. Holland said he told them he'd love to be a part of it.

Pruett's came on board as well. It will offer free root beer floats to attendees. The event also features miniature golf, giveaways from the participating businesses, as well as game demonstrations and outdoor activities organized by Mountain Top.

"It's always been about thanking our respective customers," Holland said of the block party. "We look forward to it, I think, as much as our customers."

The longtime toy business, which is celebrating its 25th year, will serve free ice cream at noon followed by a special announcement about the future of the business, he said.
