No matter what your child's interests or time constraints may be, chances are good that the Mountain Education Foundation's Summer Enrichment Day Camp program has an option that fits his or her needs.

The six-week program begins June 5, and both half- and full-day options are available. Kids can sign up by the week or for the entire program.

"We wanted to be flexible for all the different lifestyles our families have over the summer," said camp director Kim Rackel.

Every week, the program features a different theme. One week focuses on classic novels, while another is centered on the theme of popular TV shows. Campers can explore different time periods and career possibilities. Builders and creators will especially love the power-themed session, which is being brought back this year with new activities, as well as the new inventor-themed week.

While the themes vary, activities every week include cooking, coding, hiking and, new this year, a virtual reality component, all of which correspond with the week's theme, Rackel said.

The goal is for all the camps to incorporate science, technology, engineering, art and math - and to do so without campers knowing that the fun activities they're engaging in involve learning, said Rackel, who comes up with all the themes and activities for the program.

"It's an opportunity to get some new experiences, try some new things and do positive activities with their time," she said.

Every week of camp includes time in the gym and outside in addition to traditional camp activities. Rackel said one favorite activity campers do every week is a hike to Mushroom Rock for a picnic lunch.

Registration for the program is ongoing up until the week before camp. View the camp descriptions and register online at meftoday.org.
