The holidays are over and winter is in full swing.

You know what that means: ‘Tis the season for fever — cabin fever, that is. Don’t succumb to the sickness! At Mellow Mushroom, there are a number of riveting weekly events — not to mention cure-all recipes.

For starters — literally — Mellow offers a bevy of belly-warming appetizers. For example, there is the restaurant’s rich, creamy “Magic Mushroom” soup or its bubbling-hot spinach artichoke dip.

LJ Knight, Mellow’s director of operations, suggests following either with any one of its famous pies, prepared on your choice of crust: traditional, thin or gluten-free.

In the mood for an especially hearty meal? Then LJ recommends the house special, made with mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, Applewood smoked bacon, mushrooms, black olives, Roma tomatoes, green peppers, onions and more mozzarella.

“Delicious comfort food that is perfect for cold weather,” he said.

Of course, you won’t want to forget about Mellow’s “magical” desserts, said LJ, including giant gourmet cookies such as triple chocolate chunk, oatmeal raisin or peanut butter — any one of of which can be topped with all-natural vanilla bean ice cream, dark chocolate truffle sauce, house-made whipped cream and a cherry to become a decadent sundae.

And if that sundae isn’t enough of a pick-me-up, Mellow’s downtown location hosts free Texas Hold ‘Em poker nights every Tuesday beginning at 6:30 p.m. Players must be 18 or older. The top three point-getters each week win Mellow gift cards.

Both Mellow’s locations host Pint Night every Tuesday, featuring $3 select drafts and, frequently, giveaways from breweries. That’s right, free swag from cool beer reps. If that doesn’t help bring warmth to the season, nothing will.
