Allied Arts honors Holmberg graduates

What: Graduates of the fifth class in the Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute were honored during a ceremony at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.

About the institute: The sevenweek program prepares members to be arts leaders with classes about board and nonprofit management, arts education, cultural diversity, arts and economic development and the value of arts in the community. Volley for Cure

What: The Lee University Lady Flames volleyball team hosted their third Volley for the Cure game as part of homecoming weekend.

Benefits: The event raised $19,000 for the MaryEllen Locher Foundation.Trae Cody was awarded a Volley for the Cure Scholarship. The Lee student is the son of a breast cancer survivor.

Highlights: The event included a luncheon for breast cancer survivors, pregame silent auction and a Pink Party. The team wore pink jerseys for the game. Community invited to vote for WTCI 'Be More' award finalists Online: See a full list of Be More Awards finalists.

WTCI-TV, the area's PBS station, has announced finalists in six categories of its Be More Awards.

The Be More Awards recognize unsung heroes in area nonprofit organizations. Winners will be announced March 3 during a luncheon at The Chattanoogan. Judy Woodruff, senior correspondent for "PBS NewsHour," will be the featured speaker.

The public is invited to be part of the awards process by voting for one of the 11 finalists in the People's Choice Award at wtciTV.org through Feb. 15.

The People's Choice Award will recognize the local organization that is "most connected to the community and people it serves," according to a WTCI news release.

"WTCI has had a tremendous response from our nonprofit community for the inaugural Be More Awards," said WTCI President Paul Grove. "We are now asking our community to get involved by casting votes for the People's Choice Award and attending the awards ceremony."

Other award categories are Be More Collaborative, Be More Creative, Be More Impactful, Be More Enriched, Be More Courageous and Be More Engaging.

Tickets for the luncheon may be purchased at wtciTV.org or by calling (423) 702-7808. Comcast supports Salvation Army What: Comcast made a $15,000 donation to the Greater Chattanooga Area Command of the Salvation Army.

Benefits: The donation will help fund the building of the Salvation Army's Learning and Resource Center.
