When Todd Gaddis is pounding the macadam, he's outside the four walls of First Baptist Church of LaFayette, where he is senior pastor. And he says that's exactly where outreach takes places.
"I believe mission work should start in the shadow of the steeple," he said, "and this is a way to let people know we care."
On April 15, Gaddis will run in the Chickamauga Chase, a 15K race at Chickamauga Battlefield. With sponsorships per kilometer, he'll turn over the proceeds he collects to Kids 4 Christ, a LaFayette nondenominational ministry that meets the physical and spiritual needs of underprivileged children in the North Georgia town.
He did a similar thing in last fall's Dalton Half Marathon, raising $3,500 for The Care Mission, a LaFayette-based ministry which distributes food, clothing and household goods to needy families in the community.
"Hopefully," Gaddis said, "it will prompt others to give and get involved in other ways as well."
