Storyteller Bill Landry in Spring City

Bill Landry will offer stories of the people and places of East Tennessee in a benefit for Safe Haven Light House tonight at Tennessee Valley Theatre in Spring City.

In addition to this master storyteller, the evening will include entertainment by the LeConte Jug Band and George Thacker.

Landry is best-known as the voice, host/narrator and co-producer of "The Heartland Series," which airs on the NBC affiliate in Knoxville. More than 1,800 short features celebrating the people and land of the Appalachian region have been produced since the show began in 1984, including 150 half-hour episodes that air Saturdays as "Heartland Tonight."

Landry earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a Master of Fine Arts from Trinity University in Texas. He has received two Emmy Awards for directing episodes of "The Heartland Series." The show has won additional Emmy Awards, in addition to numerous other national and international awards.
