This past week, I was rearranging some books in my library when I saw Becky Pippert's book, "A Heart Like His." In the book, Pippert tells of a life-changing experience.

She was a college sophomore en route home for the Christmas holidays and was in a spiritual crisis. Not since before her conversion two years earlier had she experienced such serious doubts. She was having a hard time praying or believing what she had been taught about God and Jesus.

In St. Louis, she had a five-hour layover. Realizing that the airport was a short distance from a mall, she decided to do some last-minute Christmas shopping. Walking outside, she asked a man to direct her to the taxi cab waiting area. "Oh, I'm a cab driver," replied the man.

Thinking how lucky she was, Becky followed him to his car. As they approached the vehicle, Becky noticed there was nothing to identify it as a taxi.

"I was young and nave and tired from just having finished final exams. But the minute I stepped into that car, I knew I was in serious trouble."

As they sped away, Becky reiterated how glad she was that the mall was nearby, but the mall never appeared, and they drove further away from the traffic. With a sickening feeling in the pit of her stomach, she began to pray for the first time in months. The thought which came to her mind was: "Show him my love."

She began to tell him how she became a Christian and what Christ had done in her life. There was no response on his part. Then came the chilling moment when, on a deserted country road, he pulled the car over and stopped. For what seemed like an eternity, he looked at her through the rearview mirror. Becky had said all she knew to say, and she sat praying silently.

Suddenly, the driver turned the car around and drove her directly to the mall. She knew that God had saved her life, and her doubts disappeared like syrup on hotcakes.
