COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A New Jersey man accused of fatally stabbing Johnny Cash's great-niece in Tennessee is set to serve 15 years in prison after reaching a plea deal.
Multiple news outlets report Wayne Masciarella of Cape May, New Jersey, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Courtney Cash.
Police found the victim's body hidden in a cedar box inside her Putnam County home in 2014. Autopsy results showed she was stabbed to death.
Masciarella was also accused of stabbing Courtney Cash's boyfriend, William Austin Johnson. Authorities said the three were believed to be friends.
The couple's toddler was also inside the home during the attack, but she was not injured.
Courtney Cash was the granddaughter of Tommy Cash, the brother of the late Johnny Cash.
