WTCI wins Midsouth Regional Emmy Award for locally produced documentary

WTCI-TV, the Tennessee Valley's Public Broadcasting station, has won a Midsouth Regional Emmy Award for its locally produced documentary, "From the Streets to the Stage: The Journey of Fredrick Davis."

The Emmy was presented by the Nashville/Midsouth chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

"From the Streets to the Stage" tells the story of Fred Davis, who overcame homelessness and poverty in East Chattanooga to become a professional ballet dancer with New York's Joffrey Ballet then with Dance Theatre of Harlem. He was supported by faculty and staff of Ballet Tennessee and Chattanooga Center for Creative Arts and members of Pilgrim Congregational Church.

Emily Compton (writer/director), Shaun Townley (executive producer), John Cotton (editor), Bo Wheeler (camera), Tyler Push (sound), Ann Cater (coordinating producer) and Sergio Plecas (camera) were honored for their work on the project at the 31st Midsouth Emmy Award Gala in Nashville.

"From the Streets to the Stage: The Journey of Fredrick Davis" will air on WTCI on Friday, Feb. 24, at 11 p.m. as part of the station's celebration of Black History Month. It can also be seen online at http://www.pbs.org/program/streets-stage-journey-fredrick-davis.
