Veterans Day remembrances

Veterans will be remembered and honored this weekend in ceremonies and promotions around the area. Today is Veterans Day, set aside to honor all who have served in the military.

All of the following gestures of appreciation are scheduled today unless otherwise noted.

-Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m.

-Chattanooga Symphony & Opera presents a free Veterans Day concert at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium, 399 McCallie Ave. Selections will include the national anthem, "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," an Armed Forces salute to all military branches, "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Taps." The Lee Singers of Lee University will join the CSO to perform "America the Beautiful." www.chattanoogasymphony.org.

-Alhambra Shrine will present a Hee Haw Salute to Veterans at 5:30 p.m. in the Shrine auditorium, 1000 Alhambra Drive. Veterans will receive a free meal; others pay $15. Dinner will be followed by a patriotic show presented by Alhambra Shriners Ladies Helping Hands. 423-875-9736.

-Point Park on Lookout Mountain will waive the entrance fee for all visitors from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ranger-guided tours will be offered at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. 423-752-7521.

-Museum Center at Five Points, 200 E. Inman St., Cleveland, Tenn., will offer free admission to veterans and their families from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

-Meigs County Historical Museum, 200 Smith Ave., Decatur, Tenn. will host a free reception honoring all veterans with special displays from noon to 2 p.m. 423-334-4424.

-American Family Care locations at 3520 Cummings Highway, 1521 Gunbarrel Road, 9058 Old Lee Highway and 170 Mouse Creek Road in Cleveland, Tenn., will give free flu shots to veterans with valid ID during regular clinic hours.

-Krystal restaurants will offer a free sausage biscuit to any person who presents a military ID (including those in uniform) between 6 and 11 a.m., or while supplies last. No other purchase is necessary; offer may not be combined with other coupons or discounts.

-O'Charley's restaurants will provide a free "$9.99er" entree to all veterans and active-duty personnel.

-Golden Corral restaurants will have Military Appreciation Night 5-9 p.m. Monday, providing a free meal for veterans and active-duty military (dine-in only). Call your local Golden Corral before leaving home to make sure it is participating and whether a form of identification is required.
