Chattanooga: School board approves budget for fiscal years 2011

A divided Hamilton County Board of Education voted 5-4 this afternoon to approve the budget for fiscal year 2011.

Several board members who voted against the budget said they didn't feel comfortable approving something they'd hadn't had time to read. The budget books are mostly the same that board members have seen for weeks, but they received final updated copies at the special called meeting.

School officials now will request a date to present their budget to the Hamilton County Commission. The commission provides local funds to the district and also must approve their budget.
