MOBILE, Ala. - An Alabama man has been honored as the nation's Disabled Veteran of the Year for 2010.
Disabled American Veterans will present the award to Dave Riley of Semmes at the group's annual convention this summer in Atlanta. Riley is a quadruple amputee.
A bacterial infection forced doctors to amputate both arms below the elbow and both legs below the knee more than a decade ago. The 50-year-old Riley hasn't let that slow him down.
He sets up and removes tables for meetings at a local veterans center and helps out in other ways too.
Other disabled veterans in Alabama set up fundraisers to send him to Colorado for the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports clinic. He found out about the honor bestowed by Disabled American Veterans upon returning in April.
