Dalton police looking for driver involved in hit-and-run on 7-year-old boy

Dalton police are looking for a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run that injured a 7-year-old boy riding a bike.

On Wednesday about 5:35 p.m., a witness said the pickup truck struck the boy while he was riding in the 800 block of Showalter Avenue. The boy was transported to T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital Wednesday night.

The boy's condition was unknown Thursday.

The witness said the pickup's driver, a young Hispanic male, got out of the truck, picked up the bicycle and its rider and carried them to the doorstep of a nearby residence.

A man living at that residence told police that, after hearing a knock on his front door, he opened it to find the young Hispanic man standing there with the boy in his arms. The young man told the resident that he had hit the boy, but when the resident said police needed to be called, the male set down the boy and ran.

The vehicle is described as a brown Chevrolet Silverado, with a partial Georgia tag of "1779." Witnesses said the truck was coming from the dead end area of Showalter Avenue and a resident of the area told police that the young Hispanic man had just left her home. She said the only thing she knew about him was that his first name might be "Lasetro."

Anyone with information about the driver is asked to call the Dalton Police Department at 706-278-9085, ext. 124.
