A judge has denied a request for a gag order in the case of accused cop killer Jesse Mathews.

Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern denied a motion for a gag order from Mathews' public defender Mary Ann Green.

Green was trying to prevent any dissemination of information about Mathews while he was in custody.

Stern said no, although she added that Green might revisit the idea if an official indictment is handed down by the grand jury.

Mathews is accused of killing Chattanooga police Sgt. Tim Chapin during the commission of an armed robbery on Brainerd Road.
