Chattanooga continuing on storm cleanup

About 474 homes in Chattanooga suffered damage from the series of storms that came through Wednesday, officials said today.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been touched by this deadly outbreak of storms," Mayor Ron Littlefield said in a press release.

City officials said that, as of 10 a.m. today, the city has received more than 2,000 storm-related calls on the city's 311 system.

Lee Norris, deputy administrator of the Department of Public Works, said crews are busy pushing debris to the side of the road to be collected at a later date so roads will be clear. Downed power lines have hindered some response, though, he said.

City officials said that, beginning Monday there will be a temporary wood recycling company at 3820 Cummings Highway. The city will waive all wood recycling fees until June 30, a press release said.

The city has also received an emergency order of traffic signals to be used as replacements for those destroyed by the storms.
