East Ridge forms own planning commission

Attendees watch fireworks at a Fourth of July celebration at Camp Jordan in East Ridge. Tennessee legislators have approved fireworks sales for East Ridge starting July 1, 2012.

After having their plans to allow the sale of fireworks inside city limits possibly postponed by the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission, the city of East ridge has formed its own planning agency to get around the commission.

In a City Council meeting Thursday, Mayor Brent Lambert said the formation of a city planning commission would give East Ridge the ability to plan its own future without interference from others.

The council voted unanimously to form the planning commission.
