Chattanooga: Well-known pastor, professor Jack McEwen dies

Dr. Jack McEwen, the well-known former pastor of First Baptist Church of Chattanooga and longtime community volunteer, has died.

The Charleston, S.C., native was called as pastor of the Chattanooga church in 1973. He served as senior pastor for seven years. He then taught at Chattanooga State Community College.

McEwen was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate in education from University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

He served as president of the Rotary Club and led the United Way campaign.
