Knoxville man charged in assaulting girlfriend with claw hammer, throwing her 3-year-old son

KNOXVILLE - A man was jailed today on allegations he attacked his girlfriend in a drunken rage with a claw hammer, threw her son when he tried to help his mother and assaulted two officers responding to the call.

Kevin Deandre Coker, 25, was held on charges of aggravated assault and two counts of assaulting officers, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk. Coker's bond was set at $63,000.

The unidentified woman and the boy were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening, according to police.
