In time for the Christmas travel rush, officials have turned on a new full-body scanner at the passenger security checkpoint at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.
"There's an improved security result," said Stephen Wood, federal security director at the airport for the Transportation Security Administration.
Officials also have opened a second passenger line to speed travelers through the checkpoint.
"It helps customer service. It speeds people through," said airport spokeswoman Christina Siebold.
Officials said the scanner uses the latest in technology and is less invasive to a person's privacy.
Chattanooga is Tennessee's fourth airport to receive a full-body scanner.
