Incline opens after repairs in Chattanooga

After about two months of repairs, the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway reopened this week.

The milelong rail ending at a station with a panoramic view of the Chattanooga Valley goes through routine maintenance annually, and this year workers finished repairs and 200 feet of rail replacement a few weeks ahead of schedule and below the $600,000 budget.

Matthew Higgins, manager of the Incline, said several people were disappointed they couldn't ride between Dec. 1 when the rail shut down and Feb. 7 when it reopened, but the reopening made some very happy.

"We were missed dearly by the tourists," he said.
