A Hawkins County teenager awaiting trial in the double slayings of his grandparents apparently killed himself in the Knox County Jail on Saturday night, according to authorities.

Brandon C. Fannin, 17, hanged himself while he was being held at the jail in downtown Knoxville, according to a Knox County Sheriff's Office incident report.

Fannin had been transferred from Knox County's Richard L. Bean Juvenile Service Center to the adult lockup Jan. 7, after the teenager attacked a guard during an unsuccessful escape attempt Jan. 1, said Richard L. Bean, director of the center that bears his name.
