Japan problems may hit Komatsu

Komatsu's Chattanooga manufacturing plant garners about 20 percent of its components from Japan and could affect production, an official says.

Dennis Riddell, general manager of the Signal Mountain Road heavy equipment maker, also said one Japanese parts plant that supplies the Chattanooga facility is near a city severely shaken by the tsunami.

But, the plant official said issues related to components should be at least a month off because the plant usually has that amount of goods in the facility or in route.

Riddell said the Signal Mountain Road plant employs nearly 300 people.
