As a way to cover his cocaine binge that resulted in someone taking his girlfriend's car, a Rossville, Ga., man told police he was kidnapped and held against his will for a week, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.
Anthony Paul Wrinn, 33, faces a charge of filling a false report after he went to Chattanooga police on Friday and said he just got away from captors holding him by smashing one with a glass ashtray and wrestling a gun away from another man.
Wrinn told police he was robbed of $900 and had been held at gunpoint since April 30 after he went to an unknown location in Lupton City and was kidnapped by an acquaintance.
Police found holes in Wrinn's story, and he then admitted that he made the story up so his girlfriend wouldn't press charges against him for taking her car, according to police.
Wrinn, who is out of jail, has his next court date set for May 31, according to the Hamilton County General Sessions Court website.
