DALTON, Ga. - Whitfield County officials plan to spend about $3 million to buy and prepare land for a new floor covering business expected to create around 200 new jobs in the area.

The Dalton-Whitfield County Joint Development Authority met this morning in a specially called meeting to approve the land contract and ground lease agreement between the authority and the business, JBBS Holdings.

Whitfield County commissioners are expected to approve the agreement tonight.

The Joint Development Authority plans to buy a 42-acre tract at the Whitfield Properties Business Park in southern Whitfield County. JBBS will lease the land and build a 200,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility, investing about $65 million into the project, according to Elyse Cochran with the Joint Development Authority.

The first phase will create about 200 new jobs and more expansions may create up to 300 more in the future, Cochran said. Those jobs are expected to pay about $15.32 an hour, which is 14 percent above the average hourly pay in the county.
