Red Bank: Police investigate possible murder/suicide

Red Bank Police detectives are investigating a double shooting that led to the deaths of a 39-year-old man and 76-year-old woman early this morning.

Tim Christol, Red Bank chief of police, said officers conducted a welfare check at about 3:15 a.m. on a resident living at 3501 Dayton Boulevard. The resident was threatening suicide, according to a news release from the police department.

When officers arrived on the apartment, they knocked on the door and heard a single gunshot from within the residence, the news release stated.

The Red Bank Police S.W.A.T. Team responded and entered the apartment where officers found two victims who had apparently died from gunshot wounds, according to the news release.

Police identified the victims as Gary E. Hines, 39, of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Rosemary R. Dehlin, 76, of Red Bank.

Investigators are looking at the shootings as a murder/suicide.

"As this investigation continues, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those involved," Christol said in the news release.
