CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Cleveland City Council rejected a proposed 3.5-cent property tax increase Monday.

The vote was 5-2 against the increase.

The increase would have been equivalent to an additional $8.75 a year on a home valued at $100,000 according to the city staff.

The current tax rate is $1.49 per $100 of assessed value.
