Shaw Industries will announce this afternoon plans to close a plant in Dalton, Ga., shedding 270 jobs.

Company spokesman Al Scruggs said Plant 20 in Dalton, which produces residential carpet, would continue to operate for about 60 days. He said employees were notified this morning.

A news release said production from the plant would be shifted to other facilities. It also states the decision to close Plant 20 does not reflect on the employees' performance. The release pledged to help employees find other jobs within the company.

"Shaw will continue to position and strengthen its manufacturing base, not only to compete today, but to better position itself for growth as conditions improve in the future," the release states.
