A fire caused the second floor of a Harrison, Tenn., home to collapse this morning and the family lost a dog in the blaze, officials said.

About 7 a.m., a 911 call reported a fire at 6908 Lake Breeze Drive, said Amy Maxwell, spokeswoman for Hamilton County Emergency Services. The Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department responded and found heavy smoke coming from the front and back side of the house, she said.

While fighting the fire, the second floor became unstable and crashed into the first floor, she said.

The homeowners were out of town, Maxwell said, but one of their dogs died while a second one escaped.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, she said, but an investigation is ongoing.
