A man found dead 10 feet from the banks of South Chickamauga Creek on Aug. 21 has been identified by police.

The body belonged to 48-year-old Todd Staats, said Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary, and the investigation into how he died is ongoing.

Staats was found wearing a backpack filled with weights, and police ruled the death suspicious.

Staats was found by two men who were canoeing and fishing on the creek.
