'Teens 4 Jeans' drive planned
FORT OGLETHORPE - Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School's chapter of the Distributive Education Clubs of America is sponsoring a "Teens 4 Jeans" drive from Dec. 17 to Feb. 14.
Jeans with no holes and of any size, brand or color that are gently worn or new can be dropped off at the school's main office between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the collection period, student Morgan Jackman said.
"The jeans we collect go to homeless teenagers in our community," Morgan said.
"Teens 4 Jeans" is a program run by DoSomething.org, an organization that connects teens to social causes.

Class accidentally sees porn pop-up
CEDAR HILL, Tenn. - A Robertson County pre-k class viewing an Internet video of Santa feeding reindeer accidentally also saw a pop-up of a naked woman.
School district Director Daniel Whitlow told WKRN-TV that when the Santa video ended, the teacher typed "reindeer art" into a search engine and clicked on one of the links. When she realized it was not what she was looking for, she tried to close the site, but a pornographic image popped up on the screen, which was being projected to the class.
Director Whitlow said the teacher immediately reported the incident and letters were sent home with students Friday explaining what happened. He said no disciplinary action was taken because it was an accident.
He also said the district is supposed to have Internet filters in place.
Skeletal remains identified
PIEDMONT, Ala. - Skeletal remains found in a rural area of eastern Alabama have been identified as a 28-year-old woman who was reported missing three years ago.
Remains of Carla Michelle Fuqua were recovered Tuesday near Piedmont, in Calhoun County. Officials used dental records to identify the woman who was reported missing in October 2009.
Authorities say her remains were found in a wooded area near the Chief Ladiga Trail, and authorities have ruled her death a homicide.
Hearing delayed in tree poisoning
OPELIKA, Ala. - A judge has postponed the competency hearing for an Alabama football fan charged with poisoning Auburn's landmark Toomer's Corner trees.
Lee County Judge Jacob A. Walker III granted Harvey Updyke's request Friday and rescheduled the hearing to Dec. 20. Attorney Andrew Stanley requested it because Updyke is recovering from a medical procedure.
Updyke has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to charges including criminal mischief and desecrating a venerable object.
