Three qualify for Chattanooga mayor's race

Three candidates have qualified to run for Chattanooga mayor in March: former state Sen. Andy Berke, former city employee Guy Satterfield and perennial candidate Chester Heathington Jr.

Wayne Hamill, former East Ridge city manager and Red Bank public works director, had picked up a petition but didn't return it and so and did not qualify.

The qualifying deadline was noon today for the mayor and City Council.

Two incumbents will run unopposed - District 5 City Councilman Russell Gilbert Jr., and District 6 City Councilwoman Carol Berz.

One of the last to qualify was District 8 Councilman Andraé McGary, who turned his petition in today. He will face Moses Freeman Jr. in the March election.
