Red Bank fire crews tonight are putting down the last of a brush fire that damaged a home off Dayton Boulevard.

The fire was on a ridge behind the former Food Lion. Eddie Gorham, who rents half of a duplex off Dayton Boulevard, said he stood on the roof with a garden hose trying to keep the flames away until the fire department arrived.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The fire was called in at 4:37 p.m., authorities said. Firefighters blocked off Dayton Boulevard near Daytona Drive.

Authorities don't know how the fire started, but blamed dry conditions.

Earlier today, the National Weather Service put out warnings that low humidity and brisk winds would elevate fire dangers in some areas.
