ATLANTA - Authorities say a growing number of Georgians with mental illness or developmental disabilities are at risk of being cut off from a state program.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the program has been a lifeline for thousands of elderly and disabled Georgia residents for the past 15 years. It provides housekeeping, transportation to adult day centers, care management and other services.
Advocates for disabled people say many people risk being eliminated from the program known as SOURCE - Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment - under new guidelines.
The new, more restrictive framework limits it to the elderly and physically disabled, excluding some people who suffer from schizophrenia, Down syndrome, bipolar disorder, depression, and other mental and developmental disabilities.
