The front building of the Days Inn at 6510 Ringgold Road in East Ridge has been condemned because of health and fire code violations, according to a news release.

The move follows the discovery this morning that the motel is infested with bedbugs, East Ridge Police spokesman Erik Hopkins said in a news release.

Hopkins said the East Ridge Code Enforcement Division and East Ridge Fire Marshal's Office condemned the front building.

People renting those rooms were to be moved to other rooms by motel management. Hopkins said, and investigators plan a follow-up on Monday.

The remainder of the property will have a 10-day corrective action plan with a follow-up inspection with East Ridge officials and the Hamilton County Health Department, he said.

The inspectors, along with the Health Department and East Ridge Fire Department personnel, were called after receiving a call of bedbugs in room 217.

Once on scene, investigators also noticed some of the smoke detectors were missing or not functioning.
