A Dalton State College professor today was named a U.S. Professor of the Year for her work engaging students in her psychology classes.

Christy Price, who has taught at Dalton State since 1991, was awarded the honor by the Carnegie Foundation for advocating a teaching style in which students are actively involved in learning. She also uses a variety of methods that she has learned through her extensive research on millennial learners, school officials said Thursday.

"You can tell when faculty put their all into teaching. We are very proud of what she has accomplished," said John O. Schwenn, president of Dalton State, in a news release. "She has not only made a positive impact on the lives of students but has also made other faculty members think about the way they teach and how students learn."

On Thursday, Price received the award, one of four, in a ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. She was honored in the baccalaureate colleges category.

The U.S. Professor Award is the latest in a string of honors Price has received for her teaching techniques and research.
