TUSCUMBIA, Ala. - A prank played by a group of teenage boys in northern Alabama has left a 15-year-old shot in the head.
Jesse Rainey was listed in critical condition Saturday at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May told Al.com (http://bit.ly/QxH9WZ ) that the shooting happened early Saturday morning at a rural home in Tuscumbia where eight teenagers had gone for the weekend. No adults were present.
May said a group went outside to play a prank. They flipped off an electrical breaker to turn out the lights. Rainey then hid in a closet as part of the prank.
When one boy opened that closet door, Rainey jumped out to scare him. The boy fired a gun, shooting Rainey in the head.
Authorities are investigating the case as an accidental shooting.
