Alabama woman arrested after grandson ingests cocaine

RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. - A northwest Alabama woman has been arrested after authorities say her 2-year-old grandson was found with drugs in his system.

Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett Wednesday said 38-year-old Deanna Fretwell is charged with chemical endangerment of a child. Police say the child - who lived with Fretwell - likely ingested powdered cocaine, and the woman is accused of having used the drug near her grandson.

Authorities say the incident was reported to the Franklin County Department of Human Resources and boy didn't have enough of the drug in his system to suffer any injuries.

Hargett says the Department of Human Resources has placed the boy in the care of another relative.

Fretwell is being held without bail in the Russellville City jail and it's unclear if she has an attorney.
