ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Police in metro Atlanta say a man who was wanted in a series of bank robberies in Michigan has committed suicide.

Alpharetta Police Sgt. George Gordon tells WAGA-TV authorities used the man's cellphone signal to track his location and began pursuing him Monday afternoon.

Gordon says the man pulled into a parking lot and couldn't exit because he was blocked by traffic. Gordon says when the man realized police surrounded his car, he shot himself.

The man's identity has not been released.

Alpharetta is about 25 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
