Woman in Warner Robins, Ga., gets life in prison for killing of husband

PERRY, Ga. - A Warner Robins woman has been sentenced to life in prison for killing her husband a few hours after she was served with divorce papers.

Authorities say 32-year-old Ebony Passion Smith was given the sentence, which includes the possibility of parole, on Thursday.

A Houston County jury on Wednesday convicted Smith of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during a crime.

Authorities say Smith gunned down her 30-year-old husband, a C-130 aircraft mechanic at Robins Air Force Base, in the hallway bathroom of their Warner Robins home July 15, 2011, with his .40-caliber handgun.

The Telegraph reports that under state sentencing guidelines, she's expected to serve 30 years before she would be eligible for parole consideration.
